What Is ReTensioning®?

ReTensioning® is a holistic methodology for improving human movement and function. It integrates sound neurologic, anatomic, and physiologic principles in a manner that people can experience, understand, and incorporate into their activities quickly.

Conceptually, ReTensioning® works by restoring the balance between rest and activity throughout the body. How much we get of each has a profound impact on how we move, think, and interact with the world around us. This balance between rest and activity is not just on a gross level but all the way down to the cellular level because movement is generated at the muscle and nerve cell level. ReTensioning® refines a person’s ability to strike this balance at such a fine-grained level and in a whole body context.

ReTensioning® uses gentle, individualized, neural and mechanical input and movements specific to each joint. The effects on people are quickly apparent and lasting because the method is based on how each client actually generates and controls their activity and movement. After treatment, clients can truly rest when resting and move fully when moving. The net result is much less strain of the joints, increased accuracy and control of movement, and overall improved efficiency of the body as a person goes through their daily life and activities.

ReTensioning® also significantly enhances the effectiveness of other therapeutic interventions because a client is better able to adapt to the neurological or structural changes other techniques are targeting. As a plus, ReTensioning® techniques are much easier on the practitioner’s body than most manual therapy techniques. One of the important aspects of this method is that the changes in a client’s tissues and coordination are driven by the client and not the practitioner, so people who are treated with ReTensioning® progress at the rate they are personally able to integrate with their overall movement/rest balance and general health. This provides a fail-safe mechanism to inhibit practitioners from over treating or inadvertently injuring a client when applying the ReTensioning methodology.

ReTensioning® is a different way of approaching how to enhance human performance and treat movement dysfunction, a way that treats the whole person and what they are doing that limits their ability to move as well as they want to. It addresses not only the nitty gritty of how to improve the use of one dysfunctional area (which it does well) but also how to improve the balance of rest and activity throughout the entire body.
